For several years now, the impact of screens on children has been at the heart of public and institutional debate. At a time when a bill to ban social networking for children under 15 and cell phones in high schools is due to be debated in early 2026, Ifop has carried out a representative survey of parents and their children aged 8 to 15 for the Fondation pour l’Enfance, on their family’s digital practices.
This survey explores both digital uses within families and the way in which these practices are framed and discussed. How are digital tools integrated into home life, and how are they managed? Is there a dialogue between parents and children? And how do children themselves view their use?
Key figures from the survey :
- 84% of children aged 8 to 15 have at least one piece of equipment connected to the Internet
- 83% of parents of children aged 8 to 15 supervise screen use… yet 29% of children are exposed to screens just before bedtime
- 55% of children aged 8 to 15 say they are most often on screens because they are bored
