Every year, Fédération Bancaire Française teams up with Ifop to carry out a barometer on the relationship between the French and their bank. Here are the main findings of the 2025 wave:

This 6th wave of the FBF-Ifop survey confirms customers’ attachment to a bank that is both modern and close to them. The French overwhelmingly favor a hybrid model, combining online services and in-branch support (78%), while branches remain an important point of contact for a large majority (83% of customers use both physical branches and online services).

This expectation is part of a dual dynamic of :

  • Maintaining the good image of the branch (89%) and the advisor (86%), as well as the majority perception of banks as everyday players (89%) and essential to local life (74%)
  • Digitization is now well established: 81% of French people have downloaded at least one banking application (particularly younger people), and use them above all to manage their transactions and validate their payments online.

In this context, the security of personal data is a key issue: 73% trust banks to protect their data, with efforts deemed credible in the face of fraud risks (66% believe that their bank is capable of reacting quickly in the event of fraud on their account, and 66% that it provides sufficient guarantees).

Beyond customer relations, the banking sector retains a positive image, and remains for 83% of French respondents a strategic player in the economy and the dynamism of the regions (it is the2nd most strategic sector for the French economy this year for those interviewed – just behind the energy sector).
