Against a backdrop of parliamentary debates on the proposed end-of-life law, this study highlights public opinion’s broad support for extending the rights of people at the end of life.

. 87% of French people believe that patients at the end of life should be able to choose between palliative care and active assistance in dying, subject to the law.

. 65% consider that advance directives must be respected by doctors when the patient is no longer able to express his or her wishes.

. 77% believe that advance directives should apply to all end-of-life situations, provided they comply with the law.

. 84% are in favor of the proposed law on active assistance in dying for people suffering from a serious and incurable disease, in an advanced or terminal phase, and experiencing constant suffering that cannot be relieved.

. 68% want Parliament to take a decision on this proposed law before the end of the current five-year term.
