Electric-assist bicycles (e-bikes) have become an increasingly popular mode of transportation and are becoming a regular part of daily life for the French. Drawing on data from quantitative surveys and qualitative discussions with users, Mathieu Alapetite, an associate expert at the Jean-Jaurès Foundation, provides an overview of how they are used. He shows that while e-bikes are still associated with a “young, urban, bohemian” demographic, the reality is more complex and reflects changing mobility trends.
