Key findings of the study
1. Summer vacations are still strongly associated with positive emotions, embodying a need for escape, well-being and social ties, yet are increasingly being put off by some French people.
2. The imaginary of vacations remains structured by aspirations for a change of scenery, nature and conviviality, with a majority desire to disconnect rather than show off on social networks.
3. Intentions to go on holiday are down significantly, confirming the decisive weight of social and territorial inequalities, both in access to vacations and in the length and conditions of stays.
4. Faced with economic constraints, the French prefer local vacations, mainly in France, with greater recourse to the car.
5. Budgetary constraints are strongly structuring practices, leading a majority of French people to adapt their vacations by reducing their duration, expenditure or ambitions.
