Abstention from municipal elections: between distancing oneself from local politics and the devitalization of communal life in rural areas
After the record abstention rate (55%) recorded in the first round of the 2020 municipal elections, which took place at a time when the Covid 19 virus psychosis was sweeping the country, the question of the level of participation in the 2024 municipal elections was on the minds of candidates and commentators alike. Would the turnout be equivalent to, or even higher than, that of the 2014 municipal elections, or would this election mark a new stage in the downward trend in voter turnout that has been taking shape municipal election after municipal election?
