Lyon: a great place to live, but major concerns about safety and mobility
Opinions on the quality of life in Lyon are mixed. While 85% of residents say they are satisfied with life in Lyon, 56% feel that the situation has deteriorated since 2020.
While more than half of those surveyed said they were satisfied with the work carried out by the municipality in terms of cleanliness and maintenance of the city (51%, -2 points compared to 2023), only 37% said they were satisfied with the safety of people and property. It should be noted that this perception is more pronounced in the 2nd and 6th
arrondissements (respectively 73% and 71% of residents said they were rather dissatisfied) – some of the city’s most affluent arrondissements.
Parking (only 31% satisfied, down 1 point) and traffic (26%, down 10 points) represent two other strong reasons for dissatisfaction: the municipal policy of extending bicycle lanes and pedestrianizing the Presqu’île is one of the likely hypotheses to explain this dissatisfaction.
Declining satisfaction with Grégory Doucet
Since February 2023, Grégory Doucet’s satisfaction rating has dropped significantly (42%, -6 points). In detail, the study reveals that he is being criticized for his lack of proximity to residents (only 36% feel that their mayor listens to Lyonnais’ concerns) and for his plans for Lyon (42%).
A desire for more direct democracy
Last but not least, Lyonnais express a desire for more direct democracy: 71% want the next Lyon municipal elections, in March 2026, to be headed by a candidate from civil society who is likely to win, and 81% want the mayor of Lyon to be elected directly by Lyonnais voters.
