Ifop for LCI asked the French how they view the Hantavirus.nnThe first finding is that the French are divided on the subject of the Hantavirus: 50% say they are worried (including 13% who are very worried) and 50% are not worried. This level of concern is higher than that observed during Covid-19 (44%), a month and a half before the first containment, but is slightly lower than for Ebola (55% in October 2014). Concern about Hantavirus is higher among women (56% vs. 42% among men), and among young people (64% among 18-24 year olds).
60% of French people feel that France is better prepared today to deal with a health crisis than it was before Covid-19. This perception is particularly strong among supporters of the presidential majority (91%), while those of the Rassemblement National are more skeptical (32%).
47% of French people say they trust the government to deal with the Hantavirus, versus 53% who do not. This level of confidence is slightly higher than that observed during the Covid-19 crisis in February 2020 (40%). Here too, we see differences according to political proximity: 94% of Renaissance sympathizers say they trust the government, compared with 51% of LFI sympathizers and 43% of RN sympathizers.
A large majority of French people say they are prepared to wear a mask to limit the possible spread of the Hantavirus: 76% say yes, including 37% who say “certainly”. Only 24% rejected the idea. All population categories are overwhelmingly in favor, with particularly strong support among women (82%) and those aged 65 and over (85%).
