IFOP-Endrix, on behalf of L’Opinion, surveyed the popularity of the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister in August.
On the one hand, we see a slight decline in the President’s approval rating: 21% of French people say they are satisfied with Emmanuel Macron (down 2 points from July).
The highest level of satisfaction remains concentrated among his core supporters, despite a drop: 80% of Renaissance supporters say they are satisfied (-17 points), as do 53% of his voters from the first round of the 2022 presidential election (-14 points). The highest satisfaction levels are also seen among Les Républicains supporters (35%), executives and professionals (32%), 18- to 24-year-olds (32%), and public sector employees (26%).
On the other hand, the Prime Minister’s approval rating has remained stable compared to July: 30% of French people say they are satisfied with Sébastien Lecornu (= July), compared to 70% who say they are dissatisfied.
Satisfaction remains highest among the president’s core supporters: 79% of Renaissance supporters (-20 points) and 64% of those who voted for Emmanuel Macron in the first round of the 2022 presidential election say they are satisfied (-9 points). Supporters of Les Républicains also remain among the most satisfied (46%), despite a sharp decline of 18 points. Satisfaction is rising notably among those aged 35–49 (+11 points), the unemployed (+10 points), and blue-collar workers (+10 points).
Conversely, dissatisfaction remains very high among supporters of La France Insoumise (83%) and the National Rally (84%), as well as among voters for Jean-Luc Mélenchon (89%) and Marine Le Pen (83%) in 2022.
Finally, the main topics of conversation among the French this week revolve around the wildfires that struck France this summer (83%), extreme heat and heat waves (82%), followed by the hacking of the tax agency’s website and the theft of data from 678,000 taxpayers (60%). The 2027 presidential election continues to gain traction in conversations, now at 47%.
