IFOP-Endrix for L’Opinion measured the popularity of the French President and Prime Minister in May.
First of all, we note a drop in the President’s popularity rating: 20% of French people say they are satisfied with Emmanuel Macron (-2 points compared to April). This drop is part of a climate of opinion marked by strong concerns about purchasing power, in particular the rise in fuel prices, the number-one topic of conversation among the French this week.
The highest level of satisfaction is still concentrated within its electoral base: 80% of Renaissance supporters say they are satisfied, as do 53% of Emmanuel Macron voters in the first round of the 2022 presidential election. The strongest increases were seen in the Île-de-France region (+8 points) and in the Paris metropolitan area (+9 points).
At the same time, dissatisfaction is on the rise: 80% of French people say they are dissatisfied with Emmanuel Macron (+2 points). This dissatisfaction is particularly high among Rassemblement National supporters (97%), as well as Marine Le Pen (95%) and Éric Zemmour (97%) voters.
Secondly, the Prime Minister’s popularity rating is also down: 30% of French people say they are satisfied with Sébastien Lecornu (-2 points compared to April), while 70% say they are dissatisfied (+2 points).
The level of satisfaction remains highest among the presidential base: 83% of Renaissance supporters and 67% of Emmanuel Macron voters in the first round of 2022 say they are satisfied. Les Républicains supporters also remain among the most satisfied (50%), despite a 6-point drop.
Conversely, dissatisfaction remains high among Rassemblement National supporters (86%) and Marine Le Pen voters (87%). It also rises sharply among 25-34 year-olds (+11 points) and the unemployed (+11 points).
Finally, the main topics of conversation among the French this week are the rise in fuel prices (75%), the hantavirus crisis (53%), the accusations against Patrick Bruel of sexual violence (53%), and the ceasefire negotiations between the USA and Iran (41%).
