In detail
A) For a significant proportion of pet owners, acceptance of their pet is a determining factor in their choice of vacation
– This tendency is particularly marked among dog owners (63%, compared with 34% among cat owners and 24% among owners of other pets).
– The phenomenon is also more pronounced among certain segments of the population: the under-35s (44%, versus 39% among those aged 65 and over), and people living in the Paris region (51%, versus 39% in the rest of France).
B) In this context, nearly 4 out of 10 pet owners choose to go on vacation with their pet
– This willingness to go on vacation with their pet is very strong among dog owners (64%), more so than cat owners (28%) or owners of other animals (21%).
– There are also geographical differences: 49% of people living in the Paris region say they will go on vacation with their pet, compared with 36% in the provinces.
C) However, pet owners point to difficulties in organizing holidays with their pets, and express a need for advice and support
– Among pet owners who plan to go away with their pet, 55% express difficulties in finding a suitable destination, and ask for advice or help in organizing their stay.
– Once again, dog owners are the most likely to express these difficulties (46%), ahead of cat owners (33%) and owners of other animals (27%). The more likely the animal is to actually accompany the household on its travels, the more visible the organizational constraints become.
– These difficulties are also more prevalent among young people (47% of those under 35, versus 23% of those aged 65 and over) and those living in the Paris region (44%, versus 34% in the rest of France), i.e. the segments of the population most inclined to go on vacation with their pet.
