Crédit Agricole’s European Savings Barometer, conducted by Occurrence-I among 4,000 savers in four European countries, shows that the French have high savings but remain particularly cautious in how they manage them.
In France, average savings total €99,171, compared to €85,055 in Europe,but the savings vitality index is only 49 out of 100—thelowest among the countries surveyed. Security remains the top priority: 45% of French people save primarily as a precaution, favoring savings accounts and life insurance in particular.
Digital platforms enjoy a high level of trust, with 74% of French people trusting savings platforms, provided they guarantee transparency, clarity on fees, and personalized support. On the other hand,AI still raises significant reservations: only 19% fully trust it to help them manage their savings.
Finally, switching behavior remains limited: only 41% of savers have made a decision regarding their savings in the past 12 months. When they do switch, they are primarily seeking better returns and greater diversification.
